history

The Chiesa dei Santi Carlo e Antonio in Palazzuolo

The place used to be already known by the names Palazzuolo di Romagna, Vicario del Podere Fiorentino, Podere degli Ubertini and Podere dei Pagani and at the local, Romagnolo dialect Palazol called. In the early Middle Ages from the year 1100 the area belonged to the Ubaldini family before it was briefly taken over by the Pagani in the 13th century . After the death of Maghinardo Pagani in 1302, the place fell back to the Ubaldini. After the death of Gioacchino Ubaldini in 1362, the community came under the rule of the Republic of Florence and remained there under the Duchy of Tuscany . The Palazzo di Residenza del Vicario , also called Palazzo dei Capitani , was built in 1373. During the Medici reign , the municipality shared the Capitanato with the municipality of Marradi ; the Capitano resided six months in Marradi and six months in the Palazzo dei Capitani in Palazzuolo. This form of government was replaced by a podium in 1772 , which lasted until 1837. Thereafter, the place of Leopold II was subordinated to the Vicariate of Marradi. During the Second World War, the place was on the Gothic Line and was liberated from fascism by the 1st British Infantry Division on September 24, 1944. In 1991 the Comunità Economica Europea awarded the place the title Villaggio ideal d'Italia .

Another is reminiscent of the condottiere Maghinardo Pagani , who was immortalized in Dante's Divine Comedy for his evils. There are also two museums in the building:
    • Museo della Civiltà Contadina e delle Genti di Montagna : The museum of peasant culture and the mountain people is on the ground floor and first floor of the palazzo.
