Montespertoli is an Italian municipality with 13,432 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Florence in the Tuscany region .

The community extends over about 125 km². It is located around 28 km southwest of the provincial and regional capital of Florence in Chianti and in the climatic classification of Italian communities in Zone E, 2158 GG. The northeastern municipal boundary is the Pesa River .

The districts include Aliano, Anselmo, Baccaiano, Botinaccio, Castiglioni, Convento, Fornace, Fornacette, Ghisone, Gigliola, Il Pino II, Il Poggio, La Buca, La Ripa, Le Galvane, Leoni, Lucardo, Lucignano, Martignana, Mela, Montagnana Val di Pesa, Monte Albino, Montegufoni, Ortimino, Poggio Ubertini, Polvereto, Poppiano, San Quirico in Collina, Trecento, Tresanti and Vicchio-Lungagnana.

The neighboring municipalities are Barberino Tavarnelle , Castelfiorentino , Certaldo , Empoli , Lastra a Signa , Montelupo Fiorentino , San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Scandicci .

history

The place probably originated in the Etruscan era . Located on the ancient trade route Via Volterrana between Florence, Siena and Volterra , it was connected to the Via Francigena near Certaldo and thus gained importance for trade.
