The Pesa is a river ( Torrente ) in the Italian region of Tuscany and flows through the province of Siena and the metropolitan city of Florence from south to north after 55 kilometers near Montelupo Fiorentino as a left tributary into the Arno . The river has a catchment area of 339 km² and flows mainly through the Chianti area with the Pesa Valley (Val di Pesa).

course

The source lies at an altitude of 893  meters in the municipality of Greve in Chianti between Badia a Coltibuono (municipality of Gaiole in Chianti ) and Badiaccia a Montemuro at the confluence of two smaller source rivers. In its course, the Pesa flows through the municipal areas of Greve in Chianti (3 km), Radda in Chianti (13 km), Castellina in Chianti (4 km), Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (10 km), San Casciano in Val di Pesa (10 km), Montespertoli (6 km), Scandicci (2 km), Lastra a Signa (6 km) and Montelupo Fiorentino (3 km), with the Pesa repeatedly representing the border river between the municipalities.

The Pesa flows in the Val di Pesa at an average altitude of 286 meters. The tributaries, Terzona and Sugana from the right and Cerchiaio , Virginio and Turbone from the left , can turn the Pesa into a torrential river in winter, while it mostly falls dry in summer. A number of historic stone bridges cross the river along the entire course, such as the Ponte di Ramagliano in Sambuca Val di Pesa , which was first documented in 1179 and renovated several times, most recently in 1946 due to war damage from the Second World War .
