history

The districts of Badia a Settimo and Mosciano were already inhabited by the Romans . The name Scandicci probably comes from the Latin word scandere (to rise, to rise). The Roman site of Molino San Vincenzo is also nearby . The real history of Scandicci begins with the territorial reform of Grand Duke Leopold I in 1774, when he merged the municipalities of Casellina (today Settimo) and Torri (Pian de 'Cerri, San Vincenzo and Romola) under the name Casellina e Torri . In 1869/97 the Palazzo Comunale was built, followed by Piazza Piave (1876) and Piazza Matteotti (1879). The course of the Greve river was changed in 1929, so the Piazza Marconi , which still exists today, was created .

The English writer DH Lawrence owned a villa in Scandicci since 1926, in which he a. a. wrote his last novel Lady Chatterley .
