Like most of the northeastern suburbs of Paris, Pantin is also characterized by a number of high-rise slab complexes ( grands ensembles ) and a high proportion of immigrants, especially from Turkey, the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa.

Pantin is connected to the metro ( Métrolinie 5 between Place d'Italie and Bobigny ; stops: Hoche , Église de Pantin , Bobigny - Pantin - Raymond Queneau and Métrolinie 7 between Villejuif - Louis Aragon and Mairie d'Ivry and La Courneuve - May 8, 1945 ; stop: Aubervilliers - Pantin - Quatre Chemins ) and has a train station for local traffic on line E ( Transilien ).

Pantin is crossed by the Canal de l'Ourcq , a shipping canal that connects the Marne with the Seine , but is no longer of economic importance today.

The city has a long industrial past (metalworking industry, textile industry ), as evidenced by the Moulins de Pantin ( Mills of Pantin - grain processing ) as a large industrial monument on the Canal de l'Ourcq . The Ateliers de maintenance TGV of the SNCF (maintenance of the high-speed trains of the SNCF) are a new important industrial settlement . Another important company are the Hermès workshops ( jewelry and leather fashion ).

Until the reorganization of the cantons in 2015, Pantin was divided into two cantons , the canton Pantin-Est (east) with 28,626 and the canton Pantin-Ouest (west) with 21,293 inhabitants. After the reform, only the canton of Pantin remains, to which, in addition to the city itself, the municipality of Le Pré-Saint-Gervais also belongs.
