history
The place is attested in the 7th century by a will. The name comes from "Romana villa", the villa of Romanus, Bishop of Meaux . In 1630, Nicolas de Quelen had the castle built, which in 1723 came into the possession of Marshal Ségur. The forts of Romainville and Noisy-le-Sec (which is in the Romainville area) were built in the time of Adolphe Thiers .
In 1867 the parish of Les Lilas was separated from Romainville. Fort Romainville was used as a prison and concentration camp transit camp during World War II . The Romainville TV tower was built in 1984. The history of the Roussel Uclaf research center (Center de Recherche) is important for Romainville. Very important contributions to the treatment of diseases in human medicine (new drugs) and in veterinary medicine were made here.
