Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart (born February 15, 1739 in Paris , † June 6, 1813 there ) was a French architect .

Life

Ignace Théodore Brongniart (1707–1765) was a pharmacist by profession and married Louise Geneviève de Fourcroy (1701–1775) since 1737; their two sons were Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart and his younger brother Antoine Louis Brongniart (1742-1804).

Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart was married to Louise Anne Degrémont (1741-1829) and both had a daughter Émilie Louise Alexandrine Brongniart (1780-1847) and a son Alexandre Brongniart (1770-1847).

As a student of Ange-Jacques Gabriel (1698–1782) he was his successor and continued the construction of the Paris École Militaire (military school). In 1781 he was accepted into the Académie Royale d'Architecture .

Services

As part of this work he provided the drafts for the design of the avenues in the vicinity of the military school and the home for the disabled . He created the Capuchin Monastery of St. Louis d'Antin (today Lycée Condorcet ) in Paris and drew the plans for the Paris Stock Exchange building (1808), which was later named after him. Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart is also known for the construction of numerous Parisian residences and the design of the Père-Lachaise cemetery (1808), where he was buried in 1813.
