Joe Perry (born August 13, 1974 in Wisbech ; actually Joseph Raymond Perry ) is an English snooker player from Chatteris .

Career

Perry has been a pro since 1991. At the European Open 2001 he reached the final of a full world ranking tournament for the first time in his career, which he lost to Stephen Hendry . At the 2007 team world championships he won the mixed title with Leah Willets . In addition, in 2008 he won the Championship League , an invitation tournament for snooker professionals. The "gentleman", as Joe Perry's nickname is, achieved his best result at world championships in 2008 ; he only lost in the semifinals against Ali Carter with 15:17. He then took 12th place in the official snooker world rankings and was able to make it into the top 10 in the following season, at least in the preliminary rankings.

He had his most successful season in 2014/15 at the age of 40, when he reached a final of a world ranking tournament for the second time at the start of the season at the Wuxi Classic and was only narrowly defeated by Australian Neil Robertson with 9:10. This was followed by victory at the Xuzhou Open 2015 . After the 2013 Yixing Open , it was Perry's second title in a minor ranking tournament of the Players Tour Championship . After the Indian Open 2015 , where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals, he reached ninth place in the world rankings. This was his best placement so far, which he was able to hold until the end of the season. At the tour finals, which is considered a fully fledged world ranking tournament, he reached his third major final and this time won the title against Welsh Mark Williams . He was able to turn a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 victory.

In the 2017/18 season he was able to qualify for the World Snooker Championship by winning over Ross Muir , Jimmy White and Mark Davis . In the first round he defeated the reigning world champion Mark Selby 10: 4 and caused a surprise. In the second round he lost 8:13 against Mark Allen .
