Impruneta is an Italian municipality in the metropolitan city of Florence in Tuscany with 14,610 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

The municipality extends over about 49 km². It is located around 11 km south of the provincial and regional capital of Florence on the rivers Greve (20 of 48 km in the municipality) and Ema (2 of 27 km in the municipality).

The districts include Bagnolo, Quintole, Le Rose, Pozzolatico, Mezzomonte, Baruffi and Tavarnuzze.

The neighboring municipalities are Bagno a Ripoli , Florence , Greve in Chianti , San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Scandicci .

Impruneta has a junction on the A1 Autostrada . From here the Raccordo autostradale 3 branches off to Siena . The junction used to be called Certosa , named after the Certosa San Lorenzo di Galluzzo , and from August 2011 the junction is now called Firenze-Impruneta .

Clay Impruneta: A terracotta fired at particularly high temperatures, the raw material of which comes from a certain clay deposit near Impruneta, is called Impruneta. The material contains particularly high proportions of minerals, aluminum, copper and iron oxides and is characterized by its particularly high frost resistance (in contrast to Siena terracotta).

Regular events

Festa dell'uva : The Festa dell'uva ( Eng . Grape Festival) has been held annually on the last Sunday in September since 1926. It attracts viewers from all over Tuscany. The four quarters of Imprunetas (Sante Marie, Le Fornaci, Pallò and S.Antonio) present floats at the festival with which they celebrate the harvest, the grape and the wine. The wagons are accompanied by numerous choreographies.

Santuario di Santa Maria , sanctuary from the 11th century and modified several times. Has a bell tower from the 13th century. Inside the church there are valuable paintings and sculptures from the workshop of Benedetto da Maiano , Giovanni Biliverti and Giovanni Domenico Ferretti, as well as a predella from the 15th century, a polyptych and a cloister from the 14th century. The museum houses a collection of historically and artistically interesting materials from different centuries.

Terracotta ovens in Impruneta: A number of artisans produce terracottas from local clay - from hand-made decorative pottery in all sizes, giant plant pots for the garden, oil vessels, to small or life-size statues - and offer them for sale in small shops. Hand-painted plates and jugs are also offered.
