Abdul Rahman Pazhwak
Abdul Rahman Pazhwak , also Pajhwak ( Persian عبدالرحمان پژواک) (Born March 7, 1919 in Ghazni ; † June 8, 1995 in Peshawar , Pakistan ) was an Afghan diplomat who served as President of the UN General Assembly .

After graduating from high school, he worked as a journalist and in the press department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Later he was the publisher and editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper "Islah". He was then director of the Bakhter Agance news agency (now Agance Etlaati Bakhter), which was the first news agency in Afghanistan. He then became Director General for Press and Information in Afghanistan and President of the Institute for the Promotion of the Pashtu Language ("Pashtu Tolana").

diplomat
In 1946 he entered the diplomatic service and was initially embassy attaché for culture and press at the embassies in Great Britain and the USA . In 1951 he became a member of the Foreign Ministry, where he was, among other things, responsible for the UN .
After working as permanent representative at the UN, he was ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and India . In 1976 he became ambassador to Great Britain. However, he lost this office after the communist coup in 1978. After his return to Afghanistan he was placed under house arrest and was only allowed to leave Afghanistan in 1982 for health reasons. He then lived in exile in the USA and, from 1991, in Peshawar, Pakistan.
Promotion to President of the UN General Assembly
In 1958 he became the Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations. There he was chairman of the UN Human Rights Commission in 1963 . In 1963 he was also commissioned by the UN to improve relations between Vietnam and the Buddhist faith community . He also represented his home country at conferences of the Movement of Non-Aligned States .
On September 20, 1966, he was elected President of the UN General Assembly to succeed Amintore Fanfani . After the presidency over the 5th special session in 1967 he was replaced by Corneliu Mănescu on September 19, 1967 as President of the UN General Assembly.

Pazhwak occupied himself with literature, philosophy and social sciences throughout his life. His works as a writer included translations by the Nobel Prize laureate Rabindranath Tagore .
With the establishment ( Persian آژانس خبرى پژواک Agance e Khabari Pazhwak ) or ( Pashto پژواک خبرى آژانس Pazhwak khabari Agance ) Pazhwak news agency honored Afghanistan for his life's work.
