Haya Raschid Al Chalifa ( Arabic هيا راشد آل خليفة, DMG Hayā Rāšid Āl Ḫalīfa , after English transcription often Haya Rashed Al-Khalifa ; * October 18, 1952 ) is a lawyer and diplomat from Bahrain . In June 2006 she was elected President of the 61st UN General Assembly. She took over the office in September 2006 from her predecessor Jan Eliasson and held it for a year until September 17, 2007. Al Khalifa was only the third woman to preside over the UN General Assembly.

Al Khalifa studied until 1974 in Kuwait Jura ; with her in 1979, together with another, a woman was admitted to the bar in Bahrain for the first time.

From 1999 to 2004 she was the first woman to be the ambassador for her homeland to represent her in France .

Al Chalifa belongs to the ruling family of Bahrain's Al Chalifa , her great-grandfather Isa ibn Ali Al Chalifa was ruler of the country until his death in 1932, and is also the great-great- aunt of the current ruler.
