Ismat T. Kittani
Ismat Taha Kittani (born April 5, 1929 in Amadia , † October 23, 2001 in Geneva , Switzerland ) was an Iraqi diplomat .
He joined the Foreign Service in 1952 and was his country's envoy to the United Nations in Geneva from 1961 to 1964 . From 1964 to 1975 he was a civil servant at the United Nations and a senior employee of UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim . From 1980 to 1985 he was State Secretary in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry. During this time he was also President of the 36th UN General Assembly (1981/82). He served as Iraqi UN ambassador from 1985 until his departure in 1989.
He was then advisor to the Secretary General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar (1989–1991); later he was appointed Special Envoy for Somalia by Boutros Boutros-Ghali . He was also a consultant for Kofi Annan .
