Srgjan Kerim

Srgjan Kerim ( Macedonian - Cyrillic Срѓан Керим; born December 12, 1948 in Skopje ) is a North Macedonian politician and diplomat of Turkish descent.

Life

Kerim studied economics at the University of Belgrade from 1967 to 1971. In 1982 he received his doctorate. From 1986 to 1989 he was Minister for Economic Relations with Foreign Countries in the Government of SR Macedonia . From 1989 to 1991 he was State Secretary and Spokesman in the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the SFR Yugoslavia .

Kerim was Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Germany from 1994 to 2000 and Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein from 1995 to 2000. He then served for a short time as a special representative for regional issues relating to the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe. In 2000 he took over the office of Foreign Minister of the Republic of Macedonia and in 2001 moved to New York as Ambassador to the United Nations . He held this office until 2003. From 2003 to 2006 he was chairman of the German-Macedonian Business Association.

From September 18, 2007 to September 2008, he held the office of President of the UN General Assembly .

Kerim is married and has three children.
