Luis Padilla Nervo

Luis Padilla Nervo (born August 19, 1894 in Zamora , Michoacán in Mexico , † September 9, 1985 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican politician and President of the UN General Assembly in the sixth session in 1951 .

Life

Luis Padilla Nervo studied law and economics in Mexico, Washington, DC , Buenos Aires and London . At the age of 22 he entered the diplomatic service of his country. In 1933 he achieved the rank of envoy, in 1945 he became ambassador.

He was the permanent ambassador to the United Nations for Mexico and had been a member of the Mexican delegation since the San Francisco Conference , and from 1947 its head. Dr. Padilla Nervo he represented his country in the Security Council , in the Board of Trustees (in 1949 he was its Vice-President), in the Economic and Social Council and in the interim committee of the General Assembly .

In March 1951 he was appointed as one of three members of the "Good Offices Committee", which was supposed to try to bring an end to the hostilities in Korea . He was appointed by the Iranian Ambassador and President of the UN General Assembly Nasrollah Entezam .

From 1952 to 1958 he served as Mexican Foreign Minister and from 1963 to 1972 as a judge at the International Court of Justice .

In 1980 he was awarded the Medalla Belisario Domínguez del Senado de la República .
