Lazar Mojsov

Lazar Mojsov ( Macedonian Лазар Мојсов ; born December 19, 1920 in Negotino , † August 25, 2011 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav journalist , politician and diplomat . He was President of the General Assembly of the United Nations , Chairman of the Presidium of the SFR Yugoslavia and the Central Committee of the CP Yugoslavia.

Life

Mojsov graduated from the Belgrade Faculty of Law with a doctorate before fighting the German occupation as a partisan and member of the Anti-Fascist Council for the National Liberation of Yugoslavia during World War II . After the Second World War, he quickly made a career as a member of the Macedonian National Association of the Communist Party ; 1945 to 1958 (and again from 1964 to 1967) he was a member of the Yugoslav parliament; also 1948–1951 Minister of Justice of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia . 1953-58 he was President of the Supreme Court of the Yugoslav republic.

He was then appointed to the diplomatic service; first as ambassador to the USSR and Mongolia (1958–1961), later in Austria (1967–1969) and to the International Atomic Energy Agency , and as a permanent representative to the United Nations and as ambassador to Guyana and Jamaica (1969–1974). Subsequently he was first deputy foreign minister from 1974 to 1982 and later from 1982 to 1984 foreign minister of Yugoslavia. During this time Mojsov headed the General Assembly of the United Nations as President (September 20, 1977 to September 19, 1978) and chaired the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (October 20, 1980 to October 20, 1981).

From 1984 to 1989 he was a member of the Presidential Council of his home country and from 1987–88 Chairman of the Presidium of the SFRY and thus nominal head of state of Yugoslavia.

In addition, Mojsov worked as a journalist, among other things he was also editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Borba .
