Raif Dizdarevic

Raif Dizdarević (born December 9, 1926 in Fojnica , Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ) is a former Yugoslav politician .

biography

From August 1943 he took part in the struggle of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army , became a member of the Communist Youth Association in 1944 and in March 1945 a member of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia . After the Second World War , he worked in the diplomatic service and as a trade union official.

Raif Dizdarević was chairman of the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1978 to 1982 and president of the Yugoslav federal parliament from 1982 to 1983. From 1984 to 1988 he was Yugoslav Foreign Minister and from May 15, 1988 to May 15, 1989 Chairman of the Presidium of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and thus nominally head of state. In this function he stayed on a friendship visit in Berlin (GDR) in December 1988 .

Raif Dizdarević has not been politically active since the collapse of Yugoslavia. Today he lives as a writer in Sarajevo .
