Veselin Đuranović (born May 17, 1925 in the village of Martinići, Danilovgrad , Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ; † August 30, 1997 ibid) was a Yugoslav politician of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia (BdKJ) .

biography

Đuranović initially worked in his home republic, the Socialist Republic of Montenegro , from June 1963 to December 1966 as Chairman of the Executive Council (Prime Minister) and then from December 1968 to 1977 as Secretary of the Central Committee of the BdKJ and thus as party leader of the republic.

After the death of Džemal Bijedić in a plane crash on January 18, 1977, he became his successor on February 14, 1977 as Chairman of the Federal Executive Council (Prime Minister) of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) . He held this office for more than five years and was then replaced on May 16, 1982 by Milka Planinc .

Đuranović himself was then from May 1982 to May 1983 Chairman of the Presidium and thus President of the SR Montenegro.

Most recently he was President of the SFRY as Chairman of the Presidium from May 1984 to May 1985. Radovan Vlajković was successor in this office .
