Lazar Koliševski

Lazar Koliševski (born February 12, 1914 in Sveti Nikole , today in Macedonia , † July 6, 2000 in Skopje , Yugoslavia ) was a Yugoslav politician of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia (BdKJ) .

biography

Koliševski initially worked in his home republic, SR Macedonia . During the Second World War he became secretary of the Communist Party in 1941, which was renamed BdKJ in 1952, and as such was party leader of the newly created Socialist Republic of Macedonia until July 1963. At the same time he was first Prime Minister on April 16, 1945 and finally until December 1953 Chairman of the Executive Council (Prime Minister) of the republic. From December 1953 to June 1962 he was President of the People's Assembly of SR Macedonia.

Since 1970 he was a member of the Presidium of the SFRY. After the death of Josip Broz Tito , Koliševski became chairman of the SFRY's presidium for eleven days on May 4, 1980 , a body which, from May 15, 1980, alternated the president of the SFRY every year. He was succeeded on May 15, 1980 by Cvijetin Mijatović .
