Petar Stambolić
Petar Stambolić (born July 12, 1912 in Brezova near Ivanjica ( Serbia ), † September 21, 2007 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav politician .
biography
From 1933 he belonged to the Communist Youth Association, from 1935 to the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. He graduated from Belgrade University with a degree in agricultural science . During the Second World War he was a member of the General Staff for the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army in Serbia.
1945–1947 he was Serbian Finance Minister, 1947–1948 Yugoslav Minister of Agriculture and 1948–1953 Serbian Prime Minister. He was then President of the Serbian (1953–1957) and Federal Parliament (1957–1963), and from 1963–1967 Prime Minister of Yugoslavia. He also held numerous party offices in the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia .
From May 15, 1982 to May 15, 1983 he was Chairman of the Presidium of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and was therefore President.
He was awarded the Order of the People's Hero of Yugoslavia . Petar Stambolić was an uncle of the politician Ivan Stambolić (1936-2000).
