Mika Špiljak

Mika Špiljak (born November 28, 1916 in Odra, Sisak , Croatia ; † May 18, 2007 in Zagreb ) was a Yugoslav politician of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia (BdKJ) .

biography

Špiljak was first mayor of Zagreb from 1949 to 1950 . After he was Chairman of the Executive Council (Prime Minister) of the Socialist Republic of Croatia between 1963 and 1967 , he was appointed Chairman of the Federal Executive Council (Prime Minister) of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) to succeed Petar Stambolić on May 16, 1967 . On May 18, 1969, Mitja Ribičić succeeded him in this office.

In addition, he was from 1983 to 1984 as successor to Stambolić Chairman of the Presidium (President) of the SFRY. After his regular replacement after a year by Veselin Đuranović , he became secretary of the Central Committee of the BdKJ of Croatia and thus party leader of the republic. He held this office until 1986.

In 1984 he was the patron of the Sarajevo Winter Olympics .
