Stanoje Simić

Stanoje Simić (born July 16, 1893 in Belgrade ; † February 26, 1970 ibid) was a diplomat and politician in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), who was Foreign Minister between 1946 and 1948.

Life

After attending school, Simić took part in various battles of the Kingdom of Serbia in the Balkan Wars and in the First World War between 1912 and 1918 and also studied at the Faculty of Law at the University of Belgrade , which he graduated in 1919. He then entered the diplomatic service in 1920 and became Vice Consul in Korça in July 1923 and Vice Consul in Zadar in August 1923 .

In January 1932 Simić was secretary and then in May 1934 advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and in 1935 was Legation Counselor at the Legation in France before he was initially retired in 1938. In 1939 he was reinstated as a legation counselor at the legation in France. In 1942 he became envoy and in 1943 ambassador to the Soviet Union and held this post until 1945.

He then became ambassador to the USA in April 1945 and held this office until February 1946. In this capacity he was one of the signatories of the United Nations Charter on June 26, 1945 ,

On November 30, 1945, he became a member of the People's Council of the National Assembly, of which he was a member until 1953. On February 1, 1946 Simić succeeded Josip Broz Tito as Foreign Minister of the SFRY and held this ministerial office until August 31, 1948. His successor was then Edvard Kardelj . He was then from 1948 to 1953 a member of the Council of Ministers of the SFRY.
