Miloš Minić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Милош Минић ; born August 28, 1914 in Preljina , Serbia ; † September 5, 2003 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav politician from Serbia.

biography

Minić joined the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in 1936 and over time became a close follower of Josip Broz Tito , in whose units he fought against the National Socialists during the Second World War . After the Second World War he worked as a public prosecutor until 1950 and in this role played a key role in prosecuting and bringing charges against the anti-communist guerrilla leader, Dragoljub Draža Mihailović , who was sentenced to death for alleged treason and shot on July 18, 1946.

His political career began in 1955 when he became mayor of Belgrade . On April 6, 1957, as President of the Executive Council , he became Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and remained in this office until June 9, 1962. On May 6, 1967 he became President of the Presidium of the National Assembly and was President of Serbia until May 6, 1969 .

In 1972 he became Federal Secretary (Minister) for Foreign Affairs and kept this office until he was replaced by Josip Vrhovec in 1978. During his tenure, he signed the Osimo Treaty on November 10, 1975 . The treaty finally sealed the de facto division of the former Free Territory of Trieste between Italy and Yugoslavia , which had already taken place in 1954 with the London Memorandum .
