Princely Liechtenstein Order of Merit
The Princely Liechtenstein Order of Merit was founded on July 22, 1937 by Prince Franz I von und zu Liechtenstein and can be awarded to anyone who has achieved outstanding services in the public service or for achievements in the social field for the principality .
The ruling prince is the order's grand master .
Order classes
The order was originally donated in five classes and on September 30, 1960, the Grand Cross with diamonds was added:
- Big star
- Grand cross with diamonds
- Grand Cross
- Commander with a star
- Commander
- Knight
Order decoration
The gold medal is a blue enamelled cross with a red enamel border, with the bars widening towards the outside and ending in a semicircle at the ends. In the medallion, also blue and surrounded by a red enamelled ring, the golden letter L (Liechtenstein). The initials of the founder FIL (Franz I. von Liechtenstein) on the reverse . In the case of the great cross with diamonds, the letter is laid out with diamonds on the front.
Carrying method
The award is carried on a red ribbon with two dark blue side stripes. The first three classes: Big Star, Big Cross with Diamonds and Big Cross wear the medal on a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip as well as with an eight-pointed golden breast star , with the Big Cross silver . The Commander's Cross is worn around the neck and the Knight's Cross on a triangular ribbon on the left side of the chest.
