Sheikh Isa I or Isa ibn Ali Al Chalifa ( Arabic عيسى بن علي آل خاليفة, DMG ʿĪsā ibn ʿAlī Āl Ḫalīfa ; * 1848 ; † December 9, 1932 ) was ruler of Bahrain from 1869 until his death . His title was " Hakim of Bahrain".

Isa was the fourth son of Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa al Khalifa, who had deposed his brother Muhammad ibn Khalifa al Khalifa in September 1868 and succeeded him on the throne. He had concluded a protection treaty with the British in 1861, which in fact turned Bahrain into a kind of British protectorate . In 1869 the warring brothers Ali and Muhammad fought a battle near Rifa'a in which Ali was killed. Thereupon a relative, Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, who had served as governor of Damman and Rifa'a, took over the rule; Ali's sons drove him to India in December .

Isa now took over government power together with another brother. After his brother's death in 1888, he ruled as sole ruler. The protectorate treaty with Great Britain was renewed in 1892. While the internal affairs of Bahrain remained largely under the control of the Sheikh, the British reserved foreign policy - Isa could not independently conclude treaties with other powers - but the British undertook to repel attacks on Bahrain militarily. From 1926, Charles Belgrave served as advisor to the aging Isa and helped advance social reform after pearl fishing, traditionally the country's most important economic activity, suffered a decline; In addition, the British made sure that possible rivalries within the Al Khalifa clan after Isa's death were avoided. Isa died in the Bahraini capital Manama in 1932 after 63 years of rule, one of the longest reigns of a monarch in the world. He was succeeded by his son Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa on the throne.
