Irma Harder

Irma Harder (* December 24, 1915 as Irma Lankow in Polzow ; † February 13, 2008 in Werder an der Havel ) was a German writer .

Irma Harder was the daughter of a wheelwright and a farm worker . After attending a one -class elementary school in Polzow , from 1930 she was a deaconess student at the Hoffbauer Foundation on Hermannswerder near Potsdam . From 1933 to 1936 she worked as a maid . In 1937 she married the middle farmer Adalbert Harder, with whom she ran a farm in Zerrenthin / Pasewalk district . After the death of her husband in 1946, she continued to run the farm. At the same time, she began to write plays for an amateur drama group she founded and to write first stories. Since 1956 she has been based in Potsdam as a freelance writer , since 2000 she has lived in an old people's home in Werder near Potsdam.

Irma Harder's work consists of short stories and novels which, in a simple style, paint a realistic picture of everyday village life, as the author had experienced during her time as a farmer.

Irma Harder had been a member of the GDR Writers' Association since 1954 ; since reunification she was a member of the Association of German Writers and the Brandenburg Literature College . In 1958 she was awarded the Theodor Fontane Prize of the Potsdam district . In 1975 she received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Irma Harder died in February 2008 at the age of 92 in Werder an der Havel.
