Pasewalk district
The Pasewalk district was a district in the east of the Neubrandenburg district in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From May 17, 1990 he continued as the district of Pasewalk . Today his area belongs to the districts of Uckermark in Brandenburg and Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (main part). The seat of the district administration was in Pasewalk .
geography
location
The district extended from Schönwalde west of the Uecker over the southern part of the Ueckermünder Heide and the Randowbruch to the approx. 25 km long border with Poland. The communities south of Pasewalk and around Brüssow belong to the historical landscape of the Uckermark , while Pasewalk, Löcknitz and Penkun look back on a long Pomeranian tradition. The landscape in the north of the district is characterized by wide pine forests and sandy soils in a decidedly flat land, while the south and south-east have hilly Emdmoränenbögen and clay soils, which are interrupted by the floodplains of the Uecker and Randow. Around Brüssow and Penkun numerous lakes with no outflow are interspersed in the landscape. A hill near Fahrenwalde was 99 m above sea level. NN the highest point in the Pasewalk district.
Area and population
The area of the district was 844 km². That corresponded to 7.7% of the area of the district of Neubrandenburg.
The population was around 43,500 in 1985. That's 7% of the district's residents. The population density was 57 inhabitants per km².
Neighboring areas
The Pasewalk district bordered the Ueckermünde district in the north, the People's Republic of Poland in the east, the Angermünde district in the south, the Prenzlau district in the southwest and the Strasburg district in the west .
history
The district was formed in the state of Mecklenburg on July 1, 1950
- the district of Ueckermünde
- the northwest part of the Randow district
- the northeast part of the Prenzlau district from the state of Brandenburg .
On July 25, 1952, the new Ueckermünde district was spun off from the northern part of the Pasewalk district . The thus reduced Pasewalk district belonged to the newly formed Neubrandenburg district after the federal states were dissolved.
On May 17, 1990, the district became the district of Pasewalk. On October 3, 1990, he came to the newly founded state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania within the accession area to the Federal Republic of Germany .
Through a state treaty between Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg, the communities of Nechlin, Wollschow, Woddow, Bagemühl and Grünberg as well as the city of Brüssow came to the Brandenburg district of Prenzlau on July 18, 1992, which became part of the Uckermark district on December 6, 1993 .
On June 12, 1994 the district was dissolved. From then until the district reform in 2011 , the area formed the district of Uecker-Randow together with parts of the districts of Ueckermünde and Strasburg, which were also dissolved .
Economy and Infrastructure
The economic profile of the Pasewalk district was determined by intensive agriculture. In the north there were forest operations (including a forest seed kiln in Jatznick), in the valley meadows, dairy farming was predominant. Agriculture in the Pasewalk district had, among other things , to ensure the supply of the NVA sites in and around Pasewalk , Torgelow and Eggesin with meat, grain and potatoes. In addition to some businesses in the food industry such as VEB Getreidewirtschaft, VEB Großbäckerei or VEB Slaughterhouse and Processing Company (all located in Pasewalk), there was a metal foundry and a concrete slab factory in the district town.
The main railway lines Berlin - Stralsund and Güstrow - Szczecin of the Deutsche Reichsbahn crossed at the Pasewalk junction , as did the long-distance routes 104 and 109 . The latter was particularly popular in the summer months with travel from Berlin to Usedom . The Berlin-Pomellen (Berlin-Stettin) motorway ran through the south of the district with four junctions (Radewitz, Penkun, Nadrensee and Pomellen). The 113 trunk road , like the railway line from Löcknitz via Brüssow to Prenzlau, which was later closed, was of secondary importance. Three border crossings led from the Pasewalk district to the nearby city of Szczecin: in Linken (road), in Grambow (train) and in Pomellen (motorway).
cities and communes
On October 3, 1990, 45 municipalities belonged to the Pasewalk district, including three cities:
