history

Plow

The first settlement in the Plöwen district can be traced back at least to the Germanic times. One cemetery from the pre-Roman Iron Age and one from the early Roman Empire are known. At the burial site from the imperial period, the findings and gifts (fire pit graves with weapons) were able to prove relationships with the Przeworsk culture, which was once at home in south-eastern Poland. In the vicinity of Plöwen there is a Slavic rampart called "Hühnerwinkel".

The farming village originated in the 13th century and belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania , parts of the community meanwhile to the Uckermark . In 1472, Margrave Achillis gave the Löcknitz Castle with the associated lands - including Plöwen - to the noble Werner von Schulenburg. Duke Bogislaw X. of Pomerania obtained the revision of the donation of this manor from the margrave , so the village was divided into Brandenburg and Pomeranian subjects. After frequent changes of landowner, Vorpommern came to Prussia in 1720 . French colonists settled in the 18th century and formed their own French Reformed community. In 1848 almost the whole village burned down, in 1852 the church was rebuilt. While the population was around 300 in 1937, it rose to over 1,000 at the end of World War II due to the refugees and decreased again in the following years.

In the municipal elections in December 1950, the Democratic Peasant Party of Germany , one of the bloc parties in the GDR , prevailed . With her, Arnim Gärtner became mayor and remained in office until 1990. During his tenure there was a massive expansion of cultural activities in the village and the construction of the sports field.

From 1993 to 2003 the population of Plöwen decreased by about 10%.
