About this picture

Meiersberg is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in eastern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is administered by the Am Stettiner Haff office based in Eggesin .

geography

Meiersberg is an elongated village on the country road from Ueckermünde to Ferdinandshof on the western edge of the Ueckermünder Heide . The Zarow flows along the edge of the village and flows 8 km further into the Stettiner Haff . The village is surrounded by extensive meadows and extensive forest areas.

Meiersberg is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Lübs in the north, Ueckermünde in the northeast, Liepgarten in the east and Ferdinandshof in the south and west.

history

The place was created in the 18th century by the settlement of colonists. Prior to this, the chief forest master Meyer had obtained permission from the Prussian King Friedrich II to build a glassworks between the Jädkemühl forestry and the “Besserdran” cow milk factory. So in 1748 the Meyersberg settlement was built around the glassworks and the associated tar furnace (after its namesake). The spelling did not change until later. Next to Meiersberg a settlement was built for 10 farmers and 8 kossas who cultivated the fields that were created by the logging. This settlement was called Schlabrendorff , after the Prussian war council and chamber director Ernst Wilhelm von Schlabrendorf . The place later grew together with Meiersberg. In 1827 a church was built from field stones, which has very simple shapes. A fire in 1881 destroyed almost the entire village. As a result, the town's first volunteer fire department was founded. Meiersberg was rebuilt by the turn of the century.
