history

Sauzin

Sauzin was first mentioned in a document on August 12, 1230 as "Zobesino". In it, Bishop Conrad II of the Buckow Church confirms his tithe a. a. from Sauzin. The Slavic name is interpreted as "dark".

Sauzin was for a long time a suburb of the city of Wolgast. The village was a clustered village with a few remote settlement yards.

West of Sauzin on the Peenestrom across from Wolgast at the so-called "Schweinort" was a hill from the Thirty Years' War. It was supposed to protect Wolgast from the southwest.

From the Thirty Years War until 1720 Sauzin belonged to Sweden and then to the Kingdom of Prussia .

To the north of Sauzin there was a Dutch windmill around 1880 and a sawmill around 1920, but they later disappeared.

In GDR times there was a bunker facility of the NVA at the “Schweinort”, the old hillside location, which probably served as an ammunition store for testing the ships of the Volksmarine at the Peene shipyard.

Ziemitz

Ziemitz was first mentioned in a document from 1309 as "Symitz" and at the same time in another document as "Symytze". The Slavic name is interpreted as "earth". In the latter document (PUB IV./2 No. 2462) the dukes Otto I and Wartislaw IV transfer the monastery Krummin Bede and taxes from Bannemin and Ziemitz.

Ziemitz was a domain Vorwerk, but was later converted into a manor. It was very large in 1880, with a manor house, larger farm buildings, a walled park and a walled garden. To the south of it was the place with the farm workers' cottages. There were also some small fishermen's houses on the Peenestrom.

After 1945 the property was split up in the land reform, small settlements and a residual property emerged, which later became an LPG. There was also a "village shop", a nursery, a fisherman and a boat workshop. Extensive bungalow settlements were built to the west and east of the town, with Ziemitz West being the larger of the two. This bungalow settlement was built around 1975 and also has an associated landing stage.

In 1990 these bungalow settlements were privatized and the place expanded as far as possible. He received a modern boat harbor and a hotel. The estate was built over, the park and the estate garden disappeared. In the middle of the entrance to the town stood a big old chestnut. After the felling, a new one was planted at this point.
