In 1287 a Johannes de Berkholte is mentioned as Vogt von Pasewalk ( Krabbo No. 1431 Or). The first written mention of the place Bergholz is 1484 as Berckholt .

Until the 2nd half of the 15th century Bergholz belonged to Pomerania and between 1484 and 1684 to the Löcknitz rule. From 1687, French Huguenots settled in Bergholz. Bergholz was administered in 1670 together with the villages of Caselow , Grimme, Fahrenwalde and Zerrenthin and was initially part of the Löcknitz office from 1685 to 1823 and part of the Brüssow office between 1823 and 1872 . It also belonged to the Brüssow Justice Office until 1849 and to the Brüssow District Court district from 1879 to 1952.

In 1953 the first LPG was founded in Bergholz, which was converted into a LPG type III with 98 members by 1957 and comprised 904 hectares of land. In 1960 there was a LPG type III (111 members, 1302 hectares of land) and an LPG type I (32 members, 158 hectares of land) in Bergholz, which first merged with LPG type III in Grimme in 1968 and with LPG type I in 1972 merged in Grimme and was expanded again in 1978 through the merger with the LPGs in Brüssow and Caselow. As early as 1956, Caselow had come to the Bergholz community as a district and in 1957 the Bergholzer Mühle, Jammermühle and Kreuzmühle residential areas also belonged to the community. On July 25, 1952, Bergholz and other communities were separated from the Brandenburg district of Prenzlau , which was Prussian until 1945 , and assigned to the Pasewalk district in the Neubrandenburg district .
