history
In 1454 there was a customs post on the border with the Uckermark at "Roden Born" and a rest stop. The first mention of the village "Roden Born" (Rothemühl) can be found in 1507 in the files of the town of Torgelow with eight half-farmers and a restaurant (at that time still without a mill). In 1575 the customs station was closed and the service station was also given up. After 1580 the watermill at Roden Born was built under Duke Ernst Ludwig .
On February 27, 1627, Swedish troops passed the mill in the Thirty Years' War and stocked up on supplies. In 1630 the mill was abandoned because of its defenseless location, a year later a document proves that the mill was completely destroyed and that the construction costs were too high to be rebuilt. With the Treaty of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Rothemühl came under Swedish sovereignty.
In 1690 a tar furnace was built. During the Swedish survey of Western Pomerania in 1693, the Rothemühl (also Karrenberg ) rampart was recorded. By 1700, one was Vorwerk in the area of the destroyed mill built. In 1715 the Swedish rule over Pomerania ended and Rothemühl came under Prussian rule.
The first schoolmaster of Rothemühl in 1746 was Samuel Koch. At that time the place was still without a school building, a classroom was set up in a private house. In 1748 the head forester's office in Rothemühl was established, which was responsible for the Rothemühl, Nettelgrund, Grünhof and Burgwall districts.
In 1758 glassworks were built in Rothemühl, which were closed again in 1767, instead wool spinning colonies were founded. In 1787 there was a fire in the Rothemühler Krug. After long negotiations, a school house and an adjacent house were built in 1802 at royal expense. In 1811 the tar furnace was closed. After the tar production ended, woodworking trades in particular remained in the community. Four colonist buildings were destroyed in a fire on November 7, 1815, affecting 33 families.
Around 1850 a new windmill was built on the Mühlenberg southwest of the village, which burned down completely in 1904.
On July 1, 1950, the Heinrichswalde community was incorporated and on January 1, 1957, it became an independent community again.
politics
Community representation
When the municipal council was elected in 2014, the "Uecker-Randow Civic Alliance" was the only electoral association and thus achieved 100% of the votes cast. In 2019 the "Citizens' Alliance with Competence for Western Pomerania" (formerly Uecker-Randow) competed against 5 individual candidates. 66.39%, thus 4 seats in the community council and the seat of the mayor, was given to the citizens' alliance. Two seats went to individual candidates, one of which was not accepted. This seat will now remain vacant until the next local election.
