history

Until the 19th century

Until the 17th century, the area around Ferdinandshof was uninhabited primeval forest and swamp area. In 1705, a contract between the Royal Swedish Government and the glassmaker Johann Jürgen Gundelach began to set up a glassworks. Gundelach also started the first colonization. Scharmützelhütte , as the place was called at that time, was the center of the still extremely sparsely populated area after the church consecration in 1726.

The Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm I bought the land from the Swedes . From 1736 colonization was forced by the general tenant of the offices Ueckermünde and Torgelow Christoph Ludwig Henrici . In 1737 the Vorwerk was given the name Ferdinandshof. In 1741 Henrici moved his official residence to Ferdinandshof, which now became the ecclesiastical and economic center. Gundelach and Henrici were buried in the Trinity Church. Like Wilhelmsburg and Mühlenhof in the 19th century , the Ferdinandshof Vorwerk was a Prussian state domain that was leased to the Prussian War Ministry from 1862. Until the end of the Second World War there was a Remontedepot in Ferdinandshof , which was set up by the Prussian War Ministry.

The founding period also had an impact in Ferdinandshof through the expansion of streets and houses. In 1863 the community was connected to the railway network via the Angermünde – Stralsund branch of the Berlin-Stettiner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . Soon afterwards the savings and loan fund and the dairy cooperative were established. From 1888, a field railway was built from the Ferdinandshof state station to Friedland, which formed the basis of what would later become the Mecklenburg-Pomerania narrow-gauge railway .

20th century

In the first years of the 20th century an iron foundry, a mill and a sawmill worked in the village. After the Second World War , the domain was replaced by industrial cattle fattening companies, in which up to 31,000 cattle were kept. From 1958 to 1962, large parts of this swamp area were drained as part of the so-called Friedländer Große Wiese youth project . Until 1989 there was still the VEG plant production , the VEB Friedländer Große Wiesen and the LPG animal production .

After 1992 the place was thoroughly redeveloped as part of the urban development subsidy.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Aschersleben, Blumenthal, Louisenhof and Sprengersfelde were incorporated.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Ferdinandshof
Blazon : “Half split and divided; above: in front a blue goblet in silver; behind, in blue, a striding, black-maned and hoofed, silver horse with a black tail and black saddle; below in green two silver wave threads. "

The coat of arms was designed by the Torgelower Rainer Kummer . It was approved on June 8, 1998 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 163 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: The goblet in the coat of arms is intended to establish a reference to the origin of Ferdinandshof, the glassworks. On the one hand, the horse is a reminder of the Remontedepot, on the other hand, it is a reference to today's riding tourism. This motif therefore not only symbolizes part of the past of the place, but also embodies the present and future of the community with the symbol for the tourist function of the region. The wavy threads in green refer to the melioration trenches and the meadows in the municipality.

flag

The municipality does not have an officially approved flag .

Official seal

The official seal shows the municipal coat of arms with the inscription "GEMEINDE FERDINANDSHOF * LANDKREIS VORPOMMERN-GREIFSWALD".

Culture and sights

  • The Trinity Church was built in 1722–1726 as a rectangular, plastered half-timbered building. It has a three-sided west end with pilasters and an octagonal roof tower with a hood from 1747. In the church there is a baptismal angel, which is lowered for baptisms. A glass bowl from the time the church was built serves as the baptismal font. It thus bears witness to the beginnings of the glass manufacture in the early 18th century in the Ferdinandshof region. The church is in the cemetery outside the village.
  • The Ferdinandshof home parlor was located in a new building area in the center of the village (Bartelstrasse 1). It was opened in 1995. Here, rural life from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1980s is shown using numerous characteristic agricultural implements. The Ferdinandshof home parlor has been located in the old school (Schulstrasse 4) since 2002 .
  • Louisenhof tower hill
  • Protestant church in the Blumenthal district

  • The Ferdinandshof manor. Between 1736 and 1738, Christoph Ludwig Henrici , general tenant of the royal offices in Ueckermünde and Torgelow, set up a larger court to the west of Torgelow. After 1990 the manor house remained unused for a long time. After extensive renovation, the building was given a new use in 2014.
