Neighboring communities are Dargelin in the north, Behrenhoff in the northeast, Gützkow (city) in the east and south, and Bentzin in the west and Görmin in the northwest.

geology

A special feature is the Bandeliner Os, which stretches over 4.2 kilometers north of the town of Bandelin from Kammin in the east to Kuntzow in the west. The Os arose from ice age sand, gravel and debris deposits. To the north-east of Bandelin, gravel and sand are mined to this day. Many other sites have been exploited or mining has been discontinued because of the forest cover and the proximity to the area.

Bandelin

The name of the place is obviously of Slavic origin. It can be traced back to the word "banju", which means something like "to water a fish". With the German immigrants in the 12th century, the Knights von Behr came to Pomerania , who had a decisive influence on the development of Bandelin. Since 1250, the Behrs were documented in possession of villages in the area. At times her later land ownership extended over 15 estates or their pertinence in the Gützkower Grafschaft .

In 1275, Duke Barnim enfeoffed the Behrs with a lot of hooves and the associated bede . These included Hufen in Bandelin, Stresow and Schlagtow, Hufen in Busdorf, Negentin, Kammin, Kuntzow, Groß-Kiesow, Dargelin and others, but these places were only named in the loan letter of 1491.

Bandelin itself was mentioned in a document with its current name in 1321.

A chapel in Bandelin was mentioned in the church registers in 1579.

In the 17th century, the Bandeliner Feldmark had a size of 2325 acres . The Thirty Years War brought great misery to Bandelin. The von Behr family was impoverished and pledged Bandelin to the von Schwerin family . The village was almost completely destroyed.

In the first half of the 18th century, Philipp Ludwig von Behr and his sons managed to redeem the old family property. In 1637 the old castle was built in Bandelin, south of the village in the park. Berghaus describes the building in his land book as a large, mighty building in the style that was prevalent in agriculture at the time, without any architectural decorations.

Felix Bernhard Wilhelm von Behr auf Bandelin received the title of baron from the king in Stralsund on June 8, 1865. In 1878 there was a further increase in status, the Bandeliner line was named count.

In 1865, Bandelin had 161 inhabitants, there were 1 school, 9 residential buildings and 13 farm buildings.

In 1908/09, Count von Behr undertook a nine-month journey through the Asian continent. He brought back many travel memories, such as old weapons, armor, art objects.

The old castle burned down on January 28, 1928. Two insurance companies went bankrupt because of the insurance they had to pay. The equipment, the estate archive with letters of fief, etc., the art collections and z. B. the original Gutenberg Bible (sum insured 500,000 RM) were decisive.

In 1930 they moved into the newly built Bandelin manor house , which was used as a children's home after 1945.

In 1945 the Behrs, like all landlords, were expropriated and the estates were divided up in the land reform.

In 1948 a machine rental station (MAS) was set up in Bandelin to give support to the new farms that had been set up in the surrounding villages, some of which had to start without equipment and machines.

On July 1, 1950, the name of the municipality was changed from Kuntzow to Bandelin .

After the establishment of the Agricultural Production Cooperative (LPG), it was the MTS (machine-tractor station) that primarily had the task of taking over the fields in the LPG. A vocational school with boarding-school buildings, in which the apprentices for the agricultural accounting of the district were brought together for their theoretical training, was built in Bandelin. In 1953 the school itself and the associated boarding school were completed; the inauguration took place on October 15, 1953. The concentration of agricultural engineering and vocational training was the reason for the construction of a large cultural center in Bandelin.

Around 1980 the construction of a dairy cattle facility began in Bandelin on the outskirts of Vargatz . Stables and supply and disposal systems for 4,000 dairy cows were planned. The first expansion stage was for 2,000 cattle. A number of infrastructure measures have been initiated for this large facility. Several apartment blocks were built for the employees. Cooperative relationships have been established with the LPGs in Gützkow. The LPG (T) was supposed to take care of the offspring of calves and the LPG (P) was responsible for the feed supply. Together with LPG (P) Gützkow, a pumping station on the Peene and a pipeline network between Bandelin and the surrounding arable land were built in Breechen. This served to irrigate the arable land, but also to dilute the liquid manure from the dairy cattle farm. At the turn of 1990, the expansion was interrupted and the operation gradually ended with the sale of cattle. It was only sold to a Dutch operator much later.

The collapse of the business naturally also had an impact on the location, the free movement of the apartment blocks - later their demolition, the closure of the department store, the cultural center, the school, the LTA (agricultural engineering systems - successor to the MTS) and other facilities. Only the establishment of the TÜF facility for the qualification of agricultural technology operators. brought back some jobs.

Economy and Infrastructure

Companies

The dairy cattle facility in Bandelin shapes the community alongside the farms. Conceived in the GDR era as a facility with 4,000 dairy cows, it only achieved this goal shortly before the fall of the Wall in 1990. It was an inter-cooperative institution, particularly of the LPG (P) and (T) Gützkow. The liquid manure produced by the plant was diluted with water from the Peenepumpwerk and transported over kilometers of pipelines for irrigation on the fields.

After 1990 the livestock were sold and a little later the farm was sold to a Dutch investor who then stabled dairy cows there again. He was also granted appropriate agricultural land for feed supply from the stock of the former LPG (P) Gützkow.

Otherwise there are still several businesses in the villages.

traffic

State road 35 (formerly federal road 96 ) and federal freeway 20 run through the municipality . The latter can be reached via the Gützkow junction in 2 km. Further roads and paths complete the transport network with district and municipal roads. The Schmoldow airfield is located in the Schmoldow district .
