The airfield Schmoldow is a special airfield in the Vorpommern-Greifswald . It has a grass runway 900 meters long and 50 meters wide and is approved for gliders , powered gliders , microlights and powered aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of up to 5.7 tons.
Incidents
- On April 10, 2009, two pilots took off with a PZL-104 Wilga 35 for training flights and trained several landings with simulated engine failure. In another emergency procedure exercise, witnesses noticed a drop in engine noise and the transition into descent during the landing approach at a height of 35 to 45 meters . The aircraft then hit the runway, rolled over and lay on its back. The 52-year-old pilot and the 45-year-old passenger were fatally injured in the impact.
