The Pinnow airfield is a special airfield in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district . It has two grass runways with a length of 800 and 500 meters and a width of 40 meters each and is approved for gliders , powered gliders , microlights and powered aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of up to two tons. For runway 01/19, a release for aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of up to 5.7 tons can be issued on request ( PPR ).

history

As early as the early 1950s, young people who were enthusiastic about flying came together under the care of the FDJ in Schwerin to pursue their sport under the umbrella of the Society for Sport and Technology founded in 1952 . However, since the gliding opportunities in and around Schwerin were limited, the planes first had to move to Neustadt-Glewe airfield . In order to promote pre-military training, the socialist leadership in the workers 'and peasants' state ordered in 1955 that airfields should be set up, if possible, in places where there were strong aviation communities. The Pinnower Flieger then caused the GST to buy the land on a plateau at the foot of the Petersberg in Pinnow from three farmers. On September 23, 1956, the airfield was inaugurated with a circular flight by Hannes Ramm with a SG 38 . A hangar was built as early as 1958 and later a tank farm, workshops and a tower were gradually built . A winch garage was built in the 1980s.

Shortly after reunification , on May 12, 1990, the Fliegerclub Schwerin-Pinnow e. V., which immediately submitted an application to the city of Pinnow to take over the rights of use at the airfield and the airfield buildings. The application was approved on August 28, 1990. On December 18, 1990, however , the Treuhand announced that all movables and real estate belonging to the former GST were under the management of the Treuhand and that no changes in ownership could be made without their consent. After long negotiations, the Treuhand relented on February 5, 1993 and all aircraft and flight technology of the former GST were given to the aviation clubs free of charge. Since then, the association has been operating the Pinnow airfield.

In 2007, the Pinnow community tried to terminate the lease agreement with the flying club, which had recently been extended to 2029, and brought an eviction claim . However, the Schwerin Regional Court rejected the lawsuit.

Incidents

On June 7, 2015, a Schleicher ASW 19 glider took off in a winch start on runway  01. According to witnesses, during taxiing , the right wing touched the ground and got stuck in the uncut grass. The fuselage took off, the aircraft turned on its longitudinal axis and hit the ground in a supine position. It was badly damaged and the 62-year-old pilot was seriously injured.
