history

Pinnow was first mentioned in 1265 as Pinnowe . The place name is derived from the Old Slavic word pĭnĭ for tree trunk and means place where tree trunks are or forest place . In 1315 Pinnow fell to the Rehna Monastery . In the 14th century the church was built as an early Gothic brick building. At the end of the Thirty Years War , Pinnow burned down and became a desert . The congregation was slow to recover from this setback. From 1815 to 1918 Pinnow belonged to the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin , from 1919 to 1933 to the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and from 1934 to 1952 to the State of Mecklenburg . After 1952 Pinnow came to the Schwerin-Land district in the Schwerin district and in 1990 to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state. An extensive weekend settlement was built on the south-east bank of the Pinnower See in the 1950s. The sports airfield was built near Petersberg. Due to the proximity to the state capital Schwerin and the beautiful landscape, several large residential areas were created in the village after 1990.

On January 1, 2012 Godern was incorporated into Pinnow.

coat of arms

Pinnow coat of arms
Blazon : "In gold on green hill standing the red haired and bebartete, blue-clad weever with blue hat along with silver pen, with silver ruff, silver trim and silver cuffs, red belt, silver spurred red top-boots, in both hands a silver Stilt reserved . "

The coat of arms was designed by the Schwerin heraldist Heinz Kippnick . It was approved on January 16, 2001 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 233 of the coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: The coat of arms is supposed to symbolize the connection between the Schwerin castle spirit and the legendary Petersberg near Pinnow with the weever standing on a hill. According to recent folk traditions, Petermännchen had his actual apartment in that mountain, but one night he moved through the air to Schwerin and settled there in the castle .
