history

Surname

The place name Pampow comes from Slavic and, according to tradition, means tu pampowe , which means place of papa . The chronicler Hermann Wienke suspects that a Slavic deity was worshiped at this place. But the translation Schilfort could also apply to Pampow.

Early history

In 1180 a wooden chapel is said to have been built on the site of today's church in Pampow. The first known documentary mention of the place comes from 1265 for the preacher in Pampow; the town was founded around 1222. A stone church was built in 1350 on the site of the former wooden chapel. In the winter of 1712/1713 Tsar Peter I of Russia stayed in Pampow during the Northern War and held a council of war there with his allies.

From the 19th century

In 1896 the old church had to be demolished because it was in disrepair. A new church in neo-Gothic style was built from 1896 to 1898. In 1915, eight farmhouses and three Büdner houses , some of them typically thatched , fell victim to a fire . At the end of the Second World War in May 1945, American tanks first drove into Pampow; Soviet soldiers occupied the village in July.

Several expropriations from private companies took place during the GDR era. In a process that was well received in the press, the Pampow provost Otto Maercker was convicted in 1957 on charges of incitement to boycott . After 1990, the population of the community increased, mainly due to the urban refugees from Schwerin, and numerous companies settled in the Pampow industrial park. 2001 Pampow received a municipal coat of arms. In 2008, the citizens of Pampow opposed incorporation into the state capital Schwerin and thus obtained the autonomy of the community.

From 1952 to 1994 Pampow belonged to the Schwerin-Land district (until 1990 in the GDR district of Schwerin , 1990–1994 in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). In 1994 the community was incorporated into the Ludwigslust district. Since the district reform in 2011 , it has been in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district .

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Pampow
Blazon : "A silver bar in red, accompanied: above by three golden cattails in bars, below by a golden horse's head."

The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Schwerin heraldist Heinz Kippnick . It was approved together with the flag on June 8, 2001 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 245 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Explanation of the coat of arms: The coat of arms symbolically refers to the location of the place on the historic ferry route, with the cattails to the nearby moorland, the landscape protection area "Siebendörfer Moor". Equestrian sport in the community is to be symbolized with a horse's head.
