Location of the municipality of Malliss in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district

Malliß is a municipality in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The former mining site is administered by the Dömitz-Malliß office based in the city of Dömitz .

geography

The municipality of Malliß is located in the Griesen area in southwest Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Elde Canal, which is part of the Müritz-Elde waterway , runs along the southern border of the municipality .

The community consists of the districts Bockup, Conow and Malliss.

history

Malliss was first mentioned in 1230 as Melgoz .

In the district of Conow, evaporated salt was boiled from 1307 to 1746 on the Conow salt works there. From 1912 to 1926, not far from this salt source, potash and rock salt were mined underground in the mine of the Conow union . The potash salts were further processed in the potash factory of the Friedrich Franz mine in Lübenheen.

The Conow potash works built on the salt dome (also known as “Diapir”) Conow. Such salt deposits are tectonically very stressed due to their rise from the deeper subsurface and mostly have fissures, cracks and saline transformations, which tend to carry salt solutions (alkalis). From 1817 to 1960, lignite was also mined underground (see also Malliss lignite mine (Oberflöz) and Malliss lignite mine (Unterflöz) ).

The Marienstollen, which was named after the Grand Duchess Marie , was built on the Wanzeberg around 1870 . The entrance can still be visited today, but the tunnel itself has been buried by water-bearing sands, which even back then disrupted coal mining. In 1875 a manor house and a five-wing windmill were built in Malliss, which were in operation until the 1930s and were demolished in 1947/48. Bricks have been used in the Rupelton municipal area since 1875 . The brick factory was demolished in 1992 and rebuilt as a facing brick plant.

During the Second World War , women and girls from Poland who were housed in a barrack camp at the Malliss post office were forced to do forced labor on the Reichsbahn . Due to the inhumane living conditions, some of the women and their children died. Two Poles were hanged in public on the Alaunberg for the theft of a field post package.

After the Second World War, rock salt, which was piled up when the Conow shaft was sunk , was extracted to alleviate the salt shortage . A more detailed description of this extraction work can be found here .

Blazon : “Divided; Crossed diagonally above in red: a silver mallet and a silver iron; below in silver a green oak leaf with two fruits. " The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Schwerin heraldist Heinz Kippnick . It was approved together with the flag on March 19, 2001 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 240 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: In the coat of arms, mallets and iron remind of the mining tradition around Malliss, former salt production in Conow, the mining of alum clay in Bockup and the mining of brown coal in Malliss. The oak leaf indicates the wooded surroundings of the community. The tinging in red, silver and green corresponds to the colors of the former County of Dannenberg, to which the villages once belonged.

The flag is evenly striped lengthways in white and red. In the middle of the flag, two thirds of the height of the white and red stripes, is the municipal coat of arms. The length of the flag is related to the height as 5: 3.

Parish partnership

Malliss has officially maintained a community partnership with Velen in the Borken district in North Rhine-Westphalia since 1995 . Friendly relationships had already existed in the five years before. The partnership extends over the entire area of ​​communal life. Meetings between students, clubs, organizations and the administration take place regularly.

Transport links

The federal road 191 runs through the municipality from Ludwigslust to Dömitz . Malliss had a stop on the railway line between these two cities, which was closed in 2001. Buses have since replaced this connection. Until 1945, a branch line branched off from Malliss to Lübenheen . The route to Conow , used only for freight traffic, was closed in 1994.
