coat of arms
Blazon : “Split; in front two green hop umbels one above the other in gold; behind in red a silver trefoil high cross. "
The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Glaisiner Manfred Sturzenbecher . It was approved on August 21, 1997 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 135 of the coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. |
|
Justification of the coat of arms: In the coat of arms, the hop umbels as a speaking symbol refer to the Slavic place name (chъmel = hop). In terms of number, they also refer to the two districts of Gammelin and Bakendorf. On the one hand, the trefoil cross symbolizes the former affiliation to the diocese and the county of Ratzeburg , on the other hand it refers to the Gothic style church in Gammelin, whose west gable has a cross niche designed in this way. The shield colors are a reminder of the fact that the places belonged to the former county of Schwerin in the 13th century. |

In the middle of the white stripe is the municipal coat of arms, which is four-ninths of the height of the flag. The length of the flag is related to the height as 5: 3.
