The municipality of Karstädt belongs to the Grabow district in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).

Former Alt Karstädt train station

Karstädt is about three kilometers south of Ludwigslust on the eastern edge of the Griesen area . The federal road 191 runs through the village, the federal road 5 is three kilometers away. The next train station is in Ludwigslust. The Ludwigslust – Dömitz railway line, which previously ran through Karstädt , was shut down in 2001 and dismantled in 2006/2007.

The Neu Karstädt settlement belongs to Karstädt.

history

Archaeological finds indicate that there must have been settlement in the Karstädt area since the Stone Age . Karstädt was founded in the thirties of the 13th century. In the first documentary mention from 1259, Karstädt was sold to Grabow by Count Volrad von Grabow for 200 Slavic marks and was from now on the combing village of this town. The settlement of Muddelmasch near Karstädt, which was built in the 18th century, has been called "Neu-Karstädt" since the middle of the 19th century. On July 1, 1950, Neu Karstädt was incorporated into Karstädt.

Blazon : "In red, a striding golden bull, lifting the left forefoot with a raised tail, above a waning, faced golden crescent." The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Schwerin heraldist Karl-Heinz Steinbruch . It was approved together with the flag on June 11, 2009 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 323 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: In the coat of arms, the bull is used to refer to the traditional main occupation of the inhabitants, agriculture, in particular to livestock farming. The crescent moon, which was borrowed from the post-Reformation coat of arms of the city of Grabow, is intended to remind of the centuries-old affiliation of the places to the municipal treasury.

The flag is striped of red, yellow and red across the longitudinal axis of the flagcloth. The red stripes each take up seven thirties, the middle yellow stripe sixteen-thirtieth of the length of the flagcloth. In the middle of the yellow stripe is the municipal coat of arms, which takes up two thirds of the height of the flag. The relation of the height of the flag cloth to the length is like 3: 5.

The half-timbered church, which was refurbished and renovated in 1999, belongs to the Grabow / Meckl parish .; this in turn is part of the Propstei Ludwigslust in the Parchim parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Mecklenburg .
