After the Reformation (1550), the area was given to Joachim Krause on Varchentin, who was a ducal councilor in his time. The area then belonged to the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin until the Second World War . After 1945 the village was initially part of the state of Mecklenburg , then from 1952 to 1990 part of the Schwerin district .
Penzin was first mentioned in a document in 1287. The name comes from the Old Slavic name pąk referring to the locator , i.e. place of Pęča .
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Friedrichswalde was incorporated.
