The Tempziner See is located in the Sternberg lake landscape in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district northeast of Schwerin. The body of water is located in the municipality of Tempzin Monastery and borders the municipality of Blankenberg in the east . The lake is divided into a north and a south basin. The deepest part of the lake is in the north basin. The average depth is two meters. The lake is a popular fishing and water hiking destination.
