The Groß Labenzer See is located in the north - west Mecklenburg district northeast of Schwerin in the urban area of Warin . The Wariner districts of Klein Labenz and Groß Labenz are located on the north and east banks. The west and south banks form the border with the municipality of Blankenberg in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district . The lake is divided into a north basin (Schwarzer See) and the much shallower south basin (Weißer See). The deepest part of the lake is in the north basin. The average depth is 10.2 meters. The water is almost completely surrounded by forest and is therefore a popular destination. The lake is a Natura 2000 area (Wariner Seenlandschaft, EU no .: DE 2236-303). It lies in the conservation area Lake District Warin-Neukloster , Sternberg Lake District Nature Park .
