Sternberger Seenland Nature Park
The Sternberger Seenland nature park is located in the area of the Warin - Neukloster lake areas , the Sternberg lake landscape and the central Warnow valley in the districts of Ludwigslust-Parchim and Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is located east of Lake Schwerin in the region of Sternberg , Brüel , Güstrow , Bützow , Warin and Neukloster.
history
It was founded on January 1, 2005 as the youngest nature park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is one of the 13 nature parks in Germany that have been awarded the seal of quality “Quality Nature Park”.
Natural park and environment
The total area of the nature park is approx. 540 km², of which 37% agricultural area (arable land), 30% forest area, 18% green area with partial agricultural use, 7% water area, 2% moor and heather and 5% settlement and traffic area.
The nature park includes wooded sand areas , glacial valleys of the Warnow and Mildenitz , meltwater lakes and terminal moraines . There are a number of lakes in the nature park. The largest are the Große Wariner See , the Groß Labenzer See , the Große Sternberger See and the Neuklostersee .
Special sights in the nature park are the reconstructed Slavic temple castle Groß Raden , the Warnow breakthrough valley with its mixed forests on steep slopes up to 30 m high, the monasteries Dobbertin and Tempzin , the town of Sternberg and the Zülow hydroelectric power station .
A special feature of the area are the largest inland salt station in the country near Sülten and rewetted boiler moors near Warin.
The animal and plant world is very diverse. The gray wagtail and kingfisher , otters , osprey and liverwort can be found here.

In the nature park there are 12 nature reserves, which together cover an area of 1378 hectares, which corresponds to 2.5% of the nature park area:
- Inland salt meadow near Sülten (14 ha)
- Bolzer See (112 ha)
- Breakthrough valley of the Warnow and Mildenitz (71 ha)
- Gägelower See (40 ha)
- Görslower Ufer (50 ha)
- Rothenmoorsche swamp meadow (13 ha)
- Schanzenberge near Mankmoos (11 ha)
- Dry slopes on Petersberg (46 ha)
- Dry slopes near Jülchendorf and Schönlager See (102 ha)
- Upahler and Lenzener See (537 ha)
- Warnow lakes (232 ha)
- Warnow Valley near Karnin (150 ha)
