The Rothenmoorsche Sumpfwiese nature reserve is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania west of the town of Laase . The legal determination took place on August 19, 1981 and covers an area of 13 hectares. Shallow water areas and wet meadows , which are of great importance for the bird world, are typical of the protected area . The state of the area is regarded as good due to the largely undisturbed development of the past few years. At the southern border of the area, a board provides information about the area. The northern Kronsberg is a good vantage point .

history

The lake was formed over 10,000 years ago from a block of dead ice from the last ice age . The open water silted up, mossed and formed a boiler bog . On Wiebeking's map from 1786, the Kesselmoor can be easily recognized as a forest-free area. In the 19th century, the originally drainless depression for grassland reclamation was drained through a five meter deep ditch towards the north. Some residential buildings formed the Rothenmoor settlement, which was abandoned in 1956. Around 1970, after the cased drainage ditch fell into disrepair, the lake level began to rise again and open water areas were created. The area is now free of use.

Flora and fauna

Reeds with wide cattails and calamus are characteristic of the shallow water areas . In the north-east of the area there is a small-scale peat moss swinging lawn with the typical types of bog riding grass , bladder sedge , swamp blood-eye and water feather . The edge areas are planted with gray willow bushes and groups of trees of pedunculate oak , black alder and downy birch . Birds of breeding in the area are crane , little ringed plover , lapwing , gadfly , gray shrike and red-backed shrike . Common migratory birds are common snipe and teal in the autumn and spring months . Due to the occurrence of water birds, numerous species of insects and the remote location, birds of prey such as sea eagles and ospreys , black kites and tree falcons use the area to forage. The fire- bellied toad is worth highlighting as an amphibian species .
