Niendorfer-Bernstorfer Binnensee nature reserve

The nature reserve Niendorfer-Bernstorfer Binnensee is a 567 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania east of Kittlitz (Schleswig-Holstein). It was placed under protection on May 15, 1990. The area is divided from north to south into the Dutzower See , the Dohlen forest and the Bernstorfer Binnensee with the islands of Großer and Kleiner Werder. The protection goal is to maintain a poorly disturbed lake with adjacent shoreline areas and moored swamp forests. The nature reserve is located in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve .

The current state of the area is considered to be satisfactory. Nutrient inputs from neighboring agricultural areas pollute the water.

The nature reserve, together with the nature reserves Strangen and Techin , with the area where the Schaale flows into the Schaalsee and the areas of the Schaalsee in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania area, form the FFH area Schaalsee (MV) .
