The nature reserve Kuhlrader Moor and Röggeliner See is a 328 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania north of Dechow in the northern part of the Schaalsee biosphere reserve . It was placed under protection on March 24, 1956 with two extensions in 1967 and 1972. The nature reserve is divided into the Kuhlrader Moor to the west and the Röggeliner Lake to the east . The protection goal is the preservation of a largely drained bog and nutrient-poor shallow lake. The current state of the area is considered to be satisfactory. Entering the areas is only possible at the two natural bathing areas near Dechow and Klocksdorf. A lookout tower near Klocksdorf provides a good view of the protected area.

The nature reserve is part of the FFH area of forest and moorland around the Röggeliner See .

history

During the GDR era, the Kuhlrader Moor was drained in order to use it as grassland for agriculture.

Flora and fauna

Particularly noteworthy plant species in the area are crayfish claw , common water hose , frog bite , water feather , dwarf hedgehog and cotton grass . Bittern , lapwing , snipe , marsh harrier , cormorant , kingfisher , sparrowhawk , small woodpecker as well as gray and pied flycatchers are found as breeding birds . Of: the situation for numerous threatened breeding birds developed positively - in recent years has become - after the rewetting eagle nests successfully for two years, the crane breeding population has increased by a pair of five, still brooding eight grebe couples , Water Rail , Spotted Crake .

The zebra spider lives in the area, as do numerous bat and amphibian species .
