Location of the community Dechow in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg | ||
Dechow is a municipality in the west of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The municipality is administered by the Rehna Office , based in the city of the same name .
geography
The community of Dechow on the southern edge of the 177 hectare Röggeliner See , which connects to the north of the Schaalsee chain, lies between the cities of Ratzeburg and Gadebusch . Lübeck is around 23 kilometers away and the state capital Schwerin around 32 kilometers away. The area around Dechow on the state border with Schleswig-Holstein is rich in forests and lakes with a hilly relief (Ruthenberg 67 m above sea level , mirror of the Röggelinsee 38 m above sea level ). The Lankower See is also located in the municipality .
On January 1, 2004, the Dechow districts Groß Thurow and Neu Thurow and Thurow-Horst (uninhabited) were incorporated into the Roggendorf community .
Dechow is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Groß Molzahn and Carlow in the north, Königsfeld in the northeast, Roggendorf in the southeast, Mustin in the south, Ziethen in the southwest and Schlagsdorf in the northwest.
The Röggelin district belongs to Dechow.
history
The place, first mentioned in 1194, was Lauenburgisch until 1945 . By making corrections to the border between the British and Soviet zones of occupation ( Barber-Lyaschtschenko Agreement in November 1945), Dechow came to Mecklenburg with Groß- and Klein Thurow (now part of the community of Roggendorf ). The former Dechow district of Lankow was so close to the inner-German border that it stood in the way of the construction of the border security systems on the GDR side and was destroyed in 1976. Only the Lankower See , the Lankower Forest and a memorial stone erected in 2009 remind of the former village today.
politics
Community representation
The election of June 7, 2009 had the following results:

Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE DECHOW • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".
Economy and Infrastructure
Agriculture determines large parts of the area around Dechow. The community, located in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve , is increasingly relying on tourism in the largely intact natural landscape.
Dechow is the headquarters of the Gläserne Molkerei , which processes organic milk into dairy products. The products are marketed under their own name, but are also manufactured for other brands and retail chains.
