Rieps is a municipality in the west of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The municipality is administered by the Rehna Office , based in the city ​​of the same name .

geography

The municipality of Rieps is located 15 kilometers south-east of Lübeck in a gently undulating area (up to 59 m above sea level) between the Maurine river and Lake Ratzeburg . The area around Rieps, which is dominated by agriculture, borders on the north of the Schaalsee biosphere reserve .

Rieps is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Siemz-Niendorf in the northeast, Carlow in the east, Schlagsdorf in the south, Thandorf in the west and Lüdersdorf in the northwest.

The districts of Cronskamp, ​​Raddingsdorf and Wendorf belong to Rieps.

history

The place mentioned for the first time in 1158 as Ripze is one of the oldest in northwest Mecklenburg . Rieps was about five kilometers (as the crow flies) from the former inner-German border , but was not yet part of the restricted area .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Cronskamp and Wendorf were incorporated.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with a torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE RIEPS • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".

Transport links

The community is about five kilometers from the Lüdersdorf motorway junction ( Bundesautobahn 20 ). The important connecting road from Schönberg to Ratzeburg in Lauenburg runs right next to Rieps. The nearest train station is in the small town of Schönberg, ten kilometers to the north (Lübeck - Wismar route ).
