Menzendorf is a municipality in the west of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The community is administered by the office of Schönberger Land with its seat in the city of Schönberg .
geography
The municipality of Menzendorf is located on Lake Menzendorfer See between Schönberg and Grevesmühlen , more spaciously between Lübeck and Wismar in a hilly area that is bordered by the Maurine , Radegast and Stepenitz rivers.
Menzendorf is surrounded by the neighboring communities Stepenitztal in the north, Grieben in the east, Roduchelstorf in the south and Schönberg in the west.
The districts of Lübsee , Lübseerhagen and Rottensdorf belong to Menzendorf .
history
The village was first mentioned in documents in 1341, the district of Rottensdorf in 1359. Menzendorf, which belonged to the von Bülow family , was laid out as a Rundling . The oldest part of the community is today's Lübsee district, a Slavic foundation (first mentioned in 1158).
In 1823 Christian Ferdinand Siemens took over the management of the Menzendorf domain. His sons Werner von Siemens and Carl Heinrich von Siemens , who was born here , later founded the Siemens Group.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Blüssen, Lübseerhagen, Menzendorf, Hof (also Hof Menzendorf) and Rottensdorf were incorporated.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off the neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE MENZENDORF • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".
Attractions
- in the district Lübsee Early Gothic church of brick and with a pointed spire and retracted rectangular choir and tower from 1901 within sight of the federal highway 20 just east of the junction Schönberg. The church is therefore illuminated at night. It has a Friese organ.
Economy and Infrastructure
In Menzendorf, in addition to agricultural businesses, there are a number of craft businesses, including a boat building company, a cider factory, a horticultural company and a dry construction company.
Transport links
The federal highway 20 ( Lübeck - Wismar ) leads past Menzendorf, the next driveway ( Schönberg ) is five kilometers away. There are good road connections to Schönberg, Dassow and Grevesmühlen. On the outskirts of Menzendorf, the Lübeck – Bad Kleinen railway line runs with a train station where no trains stop to get on and off. The next still served train stations are in Grieben and Schönberg.
